The Technical Bit
COG Legal’s new machine learning process introduces a novel natural language processing neural network architecture trained to be fine-tuned for the task of multi-class classification. This architecture takes a pre-established large language model (LLM) and is trained on big data to understand and emulate the specific task of classifying legal spend cases.
NLP blends statistics, machine learning, and deep learning models with computational linguistics—rule-based modeling of human language. With the use of these technologies, computers are now able to process human language in the form of text or audio data and fully “understand” what is being said or written, including the speaker’s or writer’s intentions and sentiments.
The model achieves a high level of accuracy and low bias in the task of classifying legal cases by introducing multiple neural network layers such as feature abstraction, tokenisation of words, and natural language processing before achieving a classification.
