The COG Legal Journey

COG Legal was formed in May 2016 by partners Stacey Coote and Caroline O’Grady under the trading name Coote O'Grady. Stacey has more than two decades of legal spend management experience delivering hundreds of millions of savings for companies worldwide through numerous legal spend management projects. Caroline is a qualified UK Solicitor and PRINCE II project management practitioner with an extensive background in law firm relationship and legal spend management.

Having worked in-house and at law firms, Stacey and Caroline knew how to work collaboratively to deliver real results - quickly attracting clients from a range of industries, with our first clients coming from banking and the public sector. Having initially focused on Panel Management projects saving clients millions and ahead of schedule, Stacey and Caroline started to build a strong reputation as legal spend management experts and started to grow their team - forming the basis of the company that exists today - COG Legal. 

Focusing efforts on Legal Invoice Review and Legal Performance Management (now LegalSRM™) Stacey and Caroline appointed their first legal spend management consultants as well as a Business Development Manager to help grow the business. 

Throughout 2018 Coote O’Grady was signing contracts with global blue-chip organisations, saving clients millions on their external legal spend.

In May 2018 we won the 2018 Global Procurement Awards for a project where we delivered $25M in savings (34%) on our client's legal spend.

Throughout 2018 we also built our first piece claims litigation performance analytics technology - LegalSRM, enabling us to analyse MI direct from law firms to deliver real cost savings.

During 2019 and 2020 we have continued to expand our team, our technology and our client base, focusing on two principle areas - LegalSRM and Legal Invoice Review as well as consulting on Legal panel management, eBilling /ELM administration and Legal Spend Health check services which have all contributed to the billions in legal spend we have managed to date and the real and sustainable savings we continue to deliver for our clients. 

During 2021, in the midst of a global panedemic Coote O'Grady continued to grown, increasing it's client base and helping company's in a wider range of industries save on their external legal spend. 

After considerable growth Coote O'Grady changed its name to COG Legal in January 2023 to better reflect the business and its technology.
