NorthStandard’s Partnership with COG Legal

 In a typical policy year, NorthStandard handles over 20,000 claims for members and spends a significant sum on lawyers and experts in investigating, defending and pursuing those claims. While ensuring that members are given the highest levels of service, the club is nevertheless committed to getting the best deals possible from the lawyers and experts it works with, ensuring that the money which the club does spend is justified and monitored accurately, and providing claims handlers with the information they need to take a strategic approach to resolving claims . 

 To assist with this, and following a successful trial during 2024, the Club has partnered with COG Legal (COG Legal). Benefits of this partnership include: a uniform approach to billing; monitoring of the application of agreed billing rates; and a detailed, informed and expert analysis of invoices (using a combination of data collection and human review) to ensure their accuracy and reasonableness. So far, this has resulted in significant savings in legal fees across the claims function.  

To date, 85 law firms have been introduced to the project, comprising all the main UK, US and Canadian law firms who assist our members. In the next 12 months further law firms based in other jurisdictions, English counsels’ chambers, and the main expert companies which the club uses will also be enrolled into the system.

In addition to providing support with the review of invoices, COG Legal provides data to inform qualitative assessments of the firms, leading to more informed relationship management meetings
